Operational Guide
How Lukas Re-railing Works
A standard Lukas re-railing operation for one derailed bogie follows four stages and can be completed by a two-person team without cranes or heavy recovery vehicles.
Scene Assessment & Frame Positioning
The team assesses the derailment — axle load, track gauge, rail profile — then positions re-railing frames on the rail on both sides of the derailed axle or bogie.
Track Clamp Anchoring
Track clamps bolt the re-railing frames to the rail head using a single spanner. This prevents lateral displacement of the frames under load during the lift phase. Compatible with UIC 54, UIC 60 and Vignol rail profiles.
Controlled Hydraulic Lift
The hydraulic power unit (700 bar) simultaneously pressurises both frames via hose connections. The frames raise the derailed bogie vertically with up to 300 mm of lift stroke. Safety locks engage at each stroke position.
Guided Return to Rail
The inclined ramp profile of the re-railing frame guides the wheel flange laterally back onto the rail head as the bogie descends. Once seated, hydraulic pressure is released and frames are removed. Track can reopen immediately.
